Verevou eyes Rio Olympics

Exactly a year ago, Vodafone Fiji Under 23 striker Iosefo Verevou was suspended from all levels of football.

Since his suspension was lifted in January this year, the nineteen year old has come a long way.

The star of the Fiji Under 20 side at this years FIFA World Cup in New Zealand with two goals to his name.

Iosefo Verevou opened his FIFA account with a goal against Germany, the first in-fact by any Fijian player at a FIFA World Cup.

Verevou says his debut World Cup will remain the most memorable of his career.

The U-20 World Cup done and dusted, Verevou is gunning for a spot in the Under 23 side to next year’s Rio Olympics.

“The Olympic games is much bigger than the World Cup. I know it won’t be easy to secure a spot to Rio but I will try my best and with God by my side, I know he will do what is right for me.”

He has credited all his success to his mother who’s been a pillar of strength and support throughout his football career.

For now, Verevou has hung up his boots, enjoying the festive season with family and friends, but come January fourth, its all business as the Under 23 side moves into camp.

Coming out of suspension, he has played a World Cup, guided his Rewa side to the battle of the Giants tournament victory, finished as the top goal scorer, and now prepares for the Rio Olympics…all within 11 months
