Veitokani and Yee wins Sportsman and Sportswoman awards

Fiji Airways Flying Fijians fly-half Alivereti Veitokani scooped the 2018 Fiji Sportsman of the Year award at the Fiji Sports Awards tonight at the FMF Gymnasium.

Receiving the award on behalf of Veitokani, his dad Jolame Turaganiqali says it was a proud moment for him to witness his son being recognized locally.

“I am really proud of my son for winning yet another award in recognition of his hard-work through sports. I am overwhelmed with joy, though he is not here with us to celebrate this achievement, I’m sure he will be thrilled when we will relay him the good news after this ceremony.”

The Fiji Rugby Union scooped four out of eleven spoils at the awards night.

The Fiji Airways Drua won the Sports Team of the Year Award and Drua Coach Senirusi Seruvakula won the Coach of the Year.

The FRU also won the 2018 Sports Organization of the Year.

Meanwhile, Olympian and national Table Tennis rep Sally Yee won the Sportswoman of the Year.

The Fiji Table Tennis also walked away with four awards which is the Sports Administrations of the Year, Young Female and Male Athlete of the Year and Sportswoman of the Year

Speaking on behalf of Yee his dad, Henry Yee says he is planning to have a Skype and relay the good news to his daughter who’s away in a scholarship to study in Japan.

“We can’t wait to go home and set up a Skype interview and inform our daughter about her achievement. I am really proud of her. She is currently in Japan studying and I can’t wait to see her reaction.”

Meanwhile a total of 11 awards was given out at the awards tonight.
