July 17, 2017 11:04 pm

The Vodafone Fiji Under-19 women’s team has dedicated the 2-all draw against Samoa at the Oceania Championships to extended squad goalkeeper Francine Lockington.

Lockington passed away at the Lautoka Hospital on Saturday.

Coach, Saroj Kumar says, the mood in camp has changed after the saddening news and the team will now play all matches in her memory.

“They (the players) were crying when they took the field and we felt for them. Maybe that is why they were a bit down in the game. We tried to change their mood and told them to play for her. They played really well, even with a player down they showed the guts to come back and that is something good as they played better than the first half.”

Fiji’s next match is against Papua New Guinea at 3pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the Inkk Battle of Giants semi-final this weekend, Labasa plays Rewa at 7.30pm on Friday at Nausori’s Ratu Cakobau Park.

In the second semi-final at 2.30pm on Saturday Lautoka plays Nadi at Churchill Park and the final is scheduled for 2.30pm on Sunday.
