U18 ruggers on a gold hunt

July 3, 2014 4:58 am

The hunt for a gold medal will be the only aim of the Fiji under 18 7s rugby side at the Youth Olympic Games in China.

Team manager Sale Sorovaki says the players are currently engaged in the school zone competitions as part of preparations for the games in August.

“The aim going into the Youth Olympic Games is to win gold. I know it will be a big occasion for most of these young kids. Most of them will probably be travelling overseas for the first time. It’s a great opportunity for them to be playing against teams from other nations.”

There are currently 17 players in the national squad.

Sorovaki adds coach Ben Ryan will name his final twelve-member squad when he arrives from England next week.

Only six teams will compete for the 7s gold with Fiji to face Japan, France, Argentina, Kenya and USA.
