Two minor sports under the spotlight

February 11, 2019 5:00 am

It is believed that two minor sports are under the spotlight for lacking accountability, good governance and failing to acquit allocated funds.

The Fiji National Sports Commission and FASANOC are looking into this issue where the two sports have not submitted any proper paperwork on their progress.

While commission chairperson Peter Mazey remained tight-lipped on the names, he gave the reason for the investigation.

“They’re not looking after the athletes, they are not showing good governance and accountability, they’re not acquitting funds that are given to them and they’re not holding Annual General Meetings and are not holding selection trials for the athletes.”

Mazey says the Sports Commission and FASANOC are looking into the matter to address the issue.

“So a lot of them have things that FASANOC and Fiji Sports Commission have been keeping a close watch on and the sad part as I’ve said, it’s only the athletes that are suffering.”

Mazey is expected to reveal more details on the issue later this week.
