“I made a wrong call against England”

These were the words of Fiji Airways men’s 7s captain Jerry Tuwai, who admitted that his kick from the scrum was the mistake which England took advantage of and scored the winning try in the cup quarter-final of the Paris tournament.

Fiji lost 19-17 to England and then later lost the chances of winning the World Rugby series title.

He says despite the results, he is proud of the way the players played this season.

“I’m proud of them because against England we were winning and the last call was my call that cost us the game but yes I’m really proud of my boys.”

Fiji 7s side later went on to win the fifth place play beating USA 28-7.

South Africa defeated England 24-14 in the Paris 7s final and claimed the series title this morning.

They finished on top of the standings with 182 points, two points ahead of Fiji, which finished second while New Zealand came third with 150 points.

This is South Africa’s third series title win.
