Tulo wins gold

Weightlifter Manueli Tulo has won a gold medal for Fiji at the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea yesterday.

Tulo won gold in the 56kg men’s snatch and clean and jerk and total.

Fellow countryman, Poama Qaqa secured the silver medal in the clean and jerk as the national weightlifting side continues to rake in medals for Team Fiji.

In other results from yesterday, the Fiji men’s basketball side were beaten by the hosts by a close 73-75 margin.

This was the national side’s first loss in three games while the Fiji women’s side thumped New Caledonia 84-40.

On the official medal tally, Fiji is in third place with 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.

PNG leads with 3 gold medals followed by New Caledonia with 2 gold and 2 bronze medals.

Fifteen gold medals will be determined in four sports today in the fourth day of competition.

In shooting, there will be two gold medals up for grabs in the men’s and women’s 10m air pistol event.

There will be four gold medals awarded in Va’a in the men’s and women’s 1500m and 500m V6 events.

The women’s and men’s team table tennis finals will also take place.

Swimmers will be vying for seven gold medals in the pool.

Events in swimming include the men’s 50m backstroke, the women’s 100m freestyle and the men’s and women’s 4×100m freestyle relay.

Other sports that see action today are tennis, basketball, squash, touch rugby, cricket, sailing, weightlifting and soccer.
