Scotland rugby coach Gregor Townsend says Fiji Airways Flying Fijians star Leone Nakarawa is an outstanding player who has developed into leader on the rugby field.
After first seeing Nakarawa play for Fiji 7s, Townsend reflects on the ‘point of difference’ he would go on to offer at Glasgow Warriors.
Townsend says he watched Nakarawa developed when playing and how much he became during his career at the Glasgow club.
“I remember when he played for Fiji in Scotstoun I saw a huge man running up the wing putting offloads and I knew the name and I didn’t know the player that well so I went straight to look for Nikola Matawalu to ask more about him and he said he’d be keen to come to Europe and a couple of months later we managed to bring him across.”
The Flying Fijians face Scotland at 3.30am tomorrow.
