Team Fiji have returned to their country with their proud smiles and shining medals after two weeks of competition in Apia, Samoa.

Women’s 3 by 3 Basketball Captain, Mikaela Mendez says it was a great experience in Samoa.

This is my fourth one but every experience is different. We went in with the mindset of winning Gold. We will now look in to building for the future.

Fijian Boxer Winston Hill also spoke about his experience in Samoa as he missed out on an opportunity to win Gold for the country

Very unfortunate circumstances. Its one in a million that it happens that way, it’s something that we need to look at in a positive light, learn from it and take it back to the drawing board, and work on improving from this point on.

Gold Medalist Avikash Lal says this was a great learning experience for him.

I was prepared to win 3 Gold medals but the guys from PNG and Tahiti were training full time, some were training in overseas bases. For me I come from a farming background, and train and also work. It’s a huge experience for me to win a medal and clock a personal best time too.

Fiji won a total of 147 medals at this year’s Pacific Games.
