Team Wellington on track for semis

Team Wellington could become the first team this afternoon to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2015 Fiji Airways OFC Champions League.

The New Zealand club will top Group C if it manages anything less than a loss against Vanuatu’s Tafea tonight.

Wellington has six points after two matches, and the only team that is in contention for the semi-final from the pool is Hekari United from Papua New Guinea, which is on three points.

Team Wellington coach Matt Colcott says the players will need to put in a good shift to ensure a last four place.

“We see how we will assess things we have some pretty tired bodies after two tough games and with a pretty quick turn around and need to recover well and see what we need from the last game as well.”

Meanwhile, Vodafone Ba has two missions to fulfill in its last match against AS Pirae tomorrow.

The Men in Black need a draw to make the semi-finals and if it does, that means two Fijian teams are guaranteed to play in the 2016 OFC Champions League.

This as per qualification rules, where all countries will teams in the semi-finals get to have two places in the tournament.

Ba coach, Shalen Lal, says they will have a training run today and decide on whether any changes will be made to the starting team.

Ba has been impressive in Group A, having won both its games so far.

Ba takes on AS Pirae at 7pm at home at Govind Park while at 4.30pm Lupe Ole Soaga takes on FC Gaitcha.

Meanwhile, today at the ANZ Stadium in Suva, AS Tefana plays Hekari United at 4.30pm while Tafea FC battles Team Wellington at 7pm.
