Tawai wins gold for Fiji

Fiji’s weightlifter, Tevita Wanono Tawai has won gold in the men’s 69kg clean and jerk with a concluding lift of 157kg at the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea minutes ago.

Micronesia’s Manuel Minginfel has won the overall men’s 69kg category gold medal with a total of 276kg. Samoa’s Patrick Pasia takes silver with 268kg, while Fiji’s Tawai ensures bronze with 267kg.

The Fiji men’s basketball team has also won its game beating American Samoa, 68-57.

Meanwhile , the Fiji women’s team has finished first in the 1500 metres V6 Va’a Canoeing competition heats at the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.

The side finished first followed by PNG, while the Cook Islands was third.

In the men’s, Cook Islands was first, PNG second and Fiji was third.

The competition continues.

In cricket, the Fiji women managed 166 runs after 20 overs, and the Cook Islands are now chasing 167 to win.

Fijian swimmer, Matelita Buadromo will also feature in the final of the women’s 400 metres individual medley after winning her heat.

She showed too much class for her opposition in the pool and will be one of the top bets for a medal after clocking 5 mins 24.23 sec.
