Taranaki overpowers Waikato in Mitre 10 Cup

Seta Tamanivalu and Manasa Mataele’s Taranaki team saw off a Manawatu challenge 41-21 last night to in their Miter 10 match.

Mataele scored one of his team’s five tries while Beaudein Waaka, Tei Walden, Toa Halafihi, Daniel Waite scored the other four with Waaka converting all the tries plus 2 penalties to secure a great comeback win from their previous loss to Bay of plenty.

Tamanivalu’s was a nuisance for the Manawatu defence with his trade mark power runs, strong tackles and set up plays.

His powerful performance will make his departure to France a bitter one for New Zealand rugby.

The win also see Taranaki keep the Log O Wood title.

In the other Mitre 10 Cup match last night Otago beat Hawkes Bay 25-31.

In the games today Canterbury takes on Wellington at the Christchurch Stadium while Waikato takes on North Harbour at the FMG Stadium in Hamilton.
