Tamani eyes playmaker's position

January 10, 2019 5:17 am

The unavailability of Amenoni Nasilasila has opened the path for Terio Tamani and Napolioni Ratu to contest for the play-maker’s position in the Fiji Airways men’s 7s team.

Coach Gareth Baber says Tamani has a good chance of getting the spot in the national side after playing well in many local tournaments.

Baber says the intense competition within the squad is making it tougher for him to select his team for the Hamilton 7s tournament.

“Well there’s obviously Terio Tamani he’s been playing well in local tournaments and he’s been with us for a number of months leading up to this. He’s been patient got on with his work – he has played well in local tournaments and I’m glad to see that he’s coming through so he could be in that position. Obviously Waisea Nacuqu as well who played exceptionally well in Cape Town and Dubai as well.”

The side will have two weeks to prepare before they fly off to Auckland, New Zealand.

Meanwhile, the Hamilton 7s tournament will be held on the 26th and the 27th of this month.
