Tabakaucoro battles for Olympic spot

Pacific sprint King Banuve Tabakaucoro will try and make it to the final tomorrow when he takes the track this afternoon in the men’s 100 metres heat in the 2016 Melanesian Games at the ANZ Stadium.

Fiji’s favourite, Tabakaucoro is also trying to reach the Olympic qualifying time for the 100 metres which is 10.16 seconds while the 200 metres is 20.50 seconds.

He clocked 20.53 seconds in the men’s 200 metres final in the Pacific Games last year.

Meanwhile, Fiji Athletics coach Albert Miller says that no one has qualified from athletics at the moment.

The Melanesia Games is the final Olympic qualification tournament in the region and athletes from Australia, New Zealand and Oceania will also be competing at the event.

The competition will start in the next hour.

The games will end on Saturday.
