Suva wins Farebrother Trophy

The Suva Rugby side is the new winner of the HFC Bank Farebrother Trophy Challenge.

Suva beat Nadroga 24-23 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Eroni Sau was the hero of the side, diving for the match winning try in the extra time of the second spell.

Suva’s other tries was scored by skipper John Stewart and Isake Katonibau while Meli Kurisaru kicked three penalties from his boot.

Suva’s center Samu Bola was red carded while Katonibau and Kalivati Tawake were sin binned in the game.

The capital city captain John Stewart says his men played as a team despite being only 14 players in the game.

“We talked as a unit, I told the boys that red card and yellow cards will not deter for what we came here for so the boys just put their heads together and kept working hard for what we came here for.”

Suva coach Saiasi Fuli says it’s after five years his side has beaten Nadroga.

“To come here and win in Lawaqa it surely takes determination and hard which my side and knew what the game will be like earlier this week.”

Nadroga captain Manoa Tamaya says it’s hard to believe that they have lost the Farebrother trophy.

“This trophy means a lot to us but unfortunately we couldn’t make it today but we give thanks to the lord who gave us the strength.”

Suva plays Namosi next Saturday.
