“We just going there to give them a good challenge but you know if we were not that well prepared we shouldn’t be in the first place. It’s a Skipper Cup we fighting for the people of Suva.”

The Suva Rugby side will not have the services of Captain John Stewart, Niko Matawalu and Alipate Mateivelia when they play Naitaisiri in the fifth round of the Skipper Cup competition this weekend.

The trio will join the Vodafone Flying Fijians camp today to prepare for the June Test Series.

Coach Saiasi Fuli says this will not deter their preparation as the rest of the players have stepped up to fill the gaps.

“We have senior players like Samu Bola, Paula Dranisinukula and few other senior players who will guide the team this weekend. It’s a big game and Naitasiri is leading the points table and we’re training very hard for a good win this Saturday.”

Fuli will name his final 25 squads sometime soon.

The Capital side sits on the third position with 14 points.

In matches this week, Namosi will host Nadroga, Suva will host Naitasiri, Nadi battles Macuata while Northland takes on Malolo.

Suva to miss key players

December 6, 2012 5:55 pm

The Suva football side will be banking a new look combination to start the new season on high this weekend.

The Whites have lost a number of key players from its IDC winning squad for the Pillay Garment Champion versus Champion match against Ba on Sunday.

Coach Gurjit Singh tested his players in a warm-up match yesterday and says he will have to rely on the available players.

“We don’t have any islanders because USP is closed and both Ralph Sherwin and Luke Ha’aterea have gone back to the Solomon Islands. And also Nathan Shivam is also injured. Joseph Mishra and Samuela Drudru have applied to go to Labasa. So pretty much we will have new players for this game against Ba.”

The match kick-offs at 4pm and you can catch a live commentary on our sister station, Radio Fiji 2 with the voice of soccer, Raymond Stoddart.
