Suva soccer was out on the streets celebrating today.
They won the 2012 Vodafone Fiji FACT after a lapse of 17 years and did it in style, beating soccer giants, Ba at home.
This calls for big celebrations.
And celebrate they did… it was a whitewash in Suva City today.
Ardent Suva soccer fans of all shapes and sizes lined up in the busiest part of their home town eager to march and be part of the Fiji FACT Cup’s return to the capital.
Led by the Fiji Police Band, players, supporters just couldn’t wait to get a glimpse of, or hold, the silverware.
Even the Suva soccer women’s team took advantage to celebrate alongside their men.
Sukuna Park was the chance for all to meet their soccer heroes especially the match winning goal scorer, Nathan Shivam.
“It’s a dream come true this time around and I think I was really lucky to achieve one of my dreams.”
But it was the coach, Gurjit Singh whose winning track record speaks for itself.
“You have to work hard, you have to be very sincere, those things are very important and I think we did it as a team.”
Former reps and national veterans in the likes of John Lal even came from abroad to be part of the jubilant occassion.
“It’s very, very important in sport to have dedication. You can’t achieve anything if you are not dedicated enough.”
In the next hour, there’ll be official presentations to players at Civic Centre.
Tonight will be the last form of celebrations before its back to business on the field as they chase down the National league title.
