Strong leadership for Fiji 7s

September 23, 2014 4:17 am

The Vodafone Fiji 7s side boasts a strong leadership group of players for the new season of the IRB World Series in Gold Coast, Australia next month.

National coach Ben Ryan says he expects veteran players Setefano Cakau and the re-called Isake Katonibau to play a helping hand to skipper Osea Kolinisau during the opening round of the series.

“You can’t just have one leader in a team. Teams can’t operate like that. You need a number of them (leaders) in a group and you look at Isake (Katonibau), Setefano (Cakau) and Osea (Kolinisau). You’ve got there already, that are natural leaders.”

Ryan adds Katonibau will add some versatility to the team as he can play at either prop or rover.

Fiji is pooled alongside Australia, Scotland and Portugal in the Gold Coast 7s to be played October 11-12.
