The government has allocated over a million dollars in the 2017/2018 budget for the construction of three sporting complexes in different provinces.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says people in the rural areas and outer islands will soon have their own sporting facilities.

“This year alone, we are spending 2.1 million dollars to complete the long awaited Vunisea Sports Complex in Kadavu and the Sawaieke Sports Complex in Gau, and continue construction of the Vunidawa Sports Complex in Naitasiri.”

Bainimarama says currently a few sporting facilities are under construction while work on others will begin soon.

“We are currently constructing a, 10 lane Olympic competition size pool in Lautoka, a new Valelevu Sports Stadium, and a new public swimming pool in Nasinu, along with dozens of rural sports fields throughout the country. And, just down the road, we plan to refurbish the Vodafone Arena.”

Bainimarama adds they will continue to invest in sporting infrastructure so that Fiji can host international events that will give exposure to our young players.
