Six athletes get scholarships

Six athletes were awarded Olympic Scholarships by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee to assist their bid to qualify for the 2016 Rio Games.

The scholarships are worth more than $3000 each and will cover training and living expenses for the athletes to put them in good footing to realize their Olympic dreams.

“This scholarship means a lot. It means extra funding so it enables us to compete, especially at international level. Thanks to Olympic Solidarity, this is the second time round for me and it’s a big boost to our preparation.”

The six recipients are athletics Banuve Tabakaucoro and Younis Bese, javelin thrower Leslie Copeland, bodybuilder Apolonia Vaivai, Judoka Josateki Naulu and archer Robert Elder.

The athletes were selected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as international level athletes.
