April 11, 2015 7:55 pm

Vodafone Suva coach, Gurjit Singh was happy with his team’s efforts despite their 3-0 loss to Auckland City in the Fiji Airways OFC Champions League yesterday.

Singh says the players played gallantly against a much experienced opponent and will need to regroup for their next clash against last years losing finalist, Amicale on Tuesday.

“That’s another tough for us, against Amicale. I think we are going to do well like we did today (yesterday) and we’ll try to do our best. That’s a good learning experience for my team.”

Meanwhile at Govind Park in Ba, the Vodafone Ba side thumped Gaitcha of New Caledonia 3-0 to lead Group A with 3 points.

The Men in Black scored three unanswered goals from Abbu Zahid Shaheed, Malakai Tiwa and Avinesh Swamy.

Ba coach, Shalen Lal was proud of his team’s efforts against a talented Gaitcha side.

“The first game was supposed to be the toughest one and this win, I gift it to the boys. We were lucky that we scored early in the first half and that turned the momentum of the game for Ba.”

Ba will host AS Pirae in their next match on Tuesday at 7pm.

In today’s games at the ANZ Stadium, Tafea will take on Hekari United at 4:30pm followed by the clash between Wellington and Tefana at 7pm.
