Wairiki 7s underway in Taveuni

2019 Fiji Bitter Wairiki Parish 7s and Netball Tournament is currently underway at the Holy Cross College ground in Taveuni.

Tournament Organiser Jone Vuki says there are two categories in the men’s rugby – the under 20 and the main competition.

24 teams are vying for the $8,000 prize money in the main competition.

The runner-up will walk away with $4,000.

Vuki says competition is heating up despite a slow start yesterday.

“When the competition started yesterday it started on a very low note. Today is going to build up and we expecting the competition to be very tough tomorrow because of the prize money that is at stake.”

20 teams are vying for the top prize of $1,800 in the Under 20 category.

The runner-up walks away with $900.

There are 10 teams competing in the netball competition.

And the volleyball competition, there are 14 teams competing in the men’s competition and 10 in the women’s competition.

The tournament ends tomorrow.
