Ten yellow cards in seven matches for Fiji 7s

The national men’s 7s side will need to work hard and maintain their discipline against a consistent Ireland side in the Cape Town 7s quarterfinal tonight.

Fiji have so far copped 10 yellow cards in the World Series this season which is the most by any team.

Last week in Dubai Fiji had six while four have been shown against them in their three pool games in Cape Town which means 10 yellow cards in 7 matches.

The national side will meet Ireland the second most disciplined team in the competition with one yellow card against them while Canada is the only team that have not copped any so far.

Meanwhile, four Fijian players top the DHL Impact Player charts for both men and women after two days of competition in Cape Town.

Three Fijians are in the top four for the men’s with France forward Tavite Veredamu leading the chart with a total of 36 points from 7 tackles, 3 line breaks, 4 offloads and 12 carries.

Vilimoni Botitu who was at the top after day one is now in second place with 33 points while Meli Derenalagi is fourth with 31 points.

Botitu was the World Series Impact Player last season.

Fijiana forward Asinate Savu leads the women’s standings with 44 points.

Savu made 15 carries, 2 line breaks, 5 tackles and 9 offloads.

The national men’s side will face Ireland in the quarterfinal at 11:02 tonight.

The Cup quarterfinals starts at 10:18pm tonight with South Africa playing Kenya.

France takes on Argentina at 10:40pm and New Zealand play Scotland at 11:24pm.
