Tabu likely to be named in Baber's final 13 member squad

Fiji Airways 7s coach Gareth Baber is likely to name Isoa Tabu in his final 13 member squad for the Las Vegas tournament this weekend.

While Tabu is ready for his debut, his brother and robust forward Sevuloni Mocenacagi is still in doubt.

Baber could play a risky game if he names Mocenacagi in his squad.

Mocenacagi is under suspension for three more matches due to dangerous tackle, meaning he will miss all of Fiji’s pool games.

Baber says if Mocenacagi is named in the final 12, it means Fiji will need to play its pool matches with 11 players, an option that he is still looking at.

I’ll certainly look at Sevu. I haven’t made up my mind and obviously seeing our training is obviously an issue. But at the moment, everybody has put in their hands up for selection and I will make my decision based on what I feel as the strategy we’ll need going into the six tough games in the weekend.

There is a high chance Baber could drop Mocenacagi, but that won’t be known until tomorrow.

The Fiji 7s side kicks off its campaign against Scotland at 11.22am on Saturday, meets Wales at 2.23pm before playing Australia at 7.52am on Sunday in its last pool match.

The Cup quarters begin at 1.46pm on Sunday, semis at 9.12am next Monday and the Cup final will be played at 12.30pm.
