South Africa wants to keep Olympic qualification hope alive

April 13, 2019 12:50 pm

The South Africa 7s team needs to maintain its fourth spot in the World Rugby 7s series standing if they want to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games.

Blitzbok coach Neil Powell says they need to work on maintaining ball possession and improve some key areas during their match this weekend.

“There are certain areas of the  game where we performed well in and I think we managed to hang on to the ball at ruck time when we took the ball into contact 90 percent of the time. I think the second base step on the circuit defense it was a base of our defense at the start of the season. But like I said if we settle on 80 percent tackle completion rate will definitely make a 20 percent of improvement.”
