The South Africa 7s team’s hope of winning its first Hong Kong title has been cut short by USA after losing its quarterfinal 21-12.

The Neil Powell coached side scored the first try of the match to take an early 7-0 lead.

However, USA’s consistency persisted in the tournament winning a turnover and punishing the Blitzbok with a try from Carlin Isles to equal the score.

The Eagles continued to show its dominance in the match scoring another try right at the half time break to maintain its lead 14-0.

USA coach Mike Friday advised his players on teamwork during the half time break that resulted in Isles second try to seal the victory.

In other quarter-final matches, Samoa beat England 14-12 and France upset New Zealand.

Meanwhile, USA will meet Fiji in the cup semi-final at 7.41pm.
