South Africa 7s hopes to bounce back in Hamilton

The World Rugby Series title holders, South Africa hopes to end its winless run in Hamilton 7s in New Zealand next month.

The Blitzbokke failed to defend its title in Dubai and then also fell shot at its home tournament in Cape Town last weekend.

South Africa 7s coach Neil Powell says despite failing to win any tournament they’re improving.

“Obviously we need a massive step up. We are on a bit of a down season with players that have left and new players that have come into the team and into the starting line-up. I think from our side we can just make a step up every time we step out into the field and we’ll be happy. So hopefully when we go into Hamilton, we’ll look at our tournament in Dubai and Cape Town, see where we can improve as a team and as individual, and hope we can make another step up in Hamilton.”

South Africa is pooled with Scotland, France and Kenya.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways men’s 7s team returns home today.
