The Fiji Airways men’s 7s coach Gareth Baber continues to brief his team on the importance of adopting a technical approach

This approach is needed in order to take on its rivals in its pools group.

Baber says the players need to work together in improving their defence and attack when they take on New Zealand, Australia and Kenya.

“It’s tough to come in with us quickly and pick up on the systems we run. The way we defend, the way we attack and the calling system for the new players but the boys have been together for a while and they tend to know the system and the way we operate but honestly, you’ll never know until you’re put under pressure. Obviously, the next few days when we’re training again in Hong Kong and into next week, it will be about applying that pressure and seeing just how those relationships are formed and how strong they stay under pressure.”

Fiji is pooled with arch-rivals New Zealand, Australia and Kenya.

Fiji meets Kenya at 11.37pm next Friday in its opening pool match, they will then play Australia at 5.13pm Saturday before taking on New Zealand at 8.55pm.

The cup quarterfinals start at 2.58pm on Sunday, cup semifinal final begins at 7.41pm and the cup final kicks off at 11pm on Sunday.
