New Zealand finishes top of its Singapore pool

The New Zealand 7s side made a stunning comeback in the second half to beat Samoa 26-22 to finish top of their Singapore 7s pool.

Samoa’s Melani Matavao scored the opening try for the match to take an early 5-0 lead.

John Vaili and David Afamasaga each added a try to lead New Zealand 17-5 at the half-time mark.

Samoa made an early start again in the second half with David Afamasaga scoring another try, thirty seconds into the second spell.

Regan Ware scored New Zealand’s second try to close up the score margin between the two teams.

Tim Mikkelson and Akuila Rokolisoa scored a back to back try to take the lead 26-22 from Samoa.

New Zealand’s Jona Nareki kicked the ball out of the field at the end of the second half for the Kiwi to claim top finish.

The Cup quarter-finals starts at 3.30pm tomorrow, semi-finals begins at 7.50pm, and the final will kick-off at 11pm.
