Fiji Rugby Union Chief Executive John O’Connor says it is an opportune time for the new players in the Fiji Airways men’s 7s to step up and cement their spot in future.
O’Connor says with Amenoni Nasilasila and Vatemo Ravouvou dropped plus Paula Dranisinukula injured, the others should step up.
“It’s a great opportunity for the young upcoming players. They need to put their hands up. We are preparing for the Olympic and this is the opportunity for them to shine.”
Tough forward Josua Vakurunabili is likely come back in the final squad while players such as skipper Kalione Nasoko, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Jerry Tuwai and Waisea Nacuqu are to retain their spot in the team.
The Fiji men’s 7s side kicks off its Hamilton tournament campaign against Wales at 10.52am on Saturday week then faces Argentina at 2.42pm and plays Australia in its last pool match at 6.52pm.
The Cup quarter-final begins at 10.36am on Sunday, Cup semi-final starts at 3.16pm and the final is scheduled for 7.10pm.
