Fijians top impact player charts after day 2 in Cape Town

Fijian players top the DHL Impact Player charts for both men and women after two days of competition at the Cape Town 7s.

Three Fijians are in the top four in the men’s after day two with France forward Tavite Veredamu leading the chart with a total of 36 points from 7 tackles, 3 line breaks, 4 offloads and 12 carries.

Vilimoni Botitu who was at the top after day one is now in second place with 33 points while Meli Derenalagi is fourth with 31 points.

Botitu was the World Series Impact Player last season.

Fijiana forward Asinate Savu leads the women’s standings with 44 points.

Savu made 15 carries, 2 line breaks, 5 tackles and 9 offloads.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Men’s 7s side is safely through to the Cape Town 7s quarterfinal after their 54-7 win over Japan in their last pool match this morning.

Captain Paula Dranisinukula said after the game they knew they had to work hard.

He added they hope to meet South Africa again later in the tournament.

‘That’s the main to score many points because every game counts, we learn from our mistakes and move on we look forward to meet them tomorrow’.

Fiji had to wait for the USA and South Africa match result this morning to confirm whether they would feature in the quarterfinal after failing to do so in Dubai last week.

But South Africa defeated USA 21-15 to finish top of the pool and Fiji as runners up.

Fiji earlier lost to South Africa 26-14 in their second pool match this morning.

The national side will face Ireland in the quarterfinal at 11:02 tonight.

The Cup quarterfinals starts at 10:18pm tonight with South Africa playing Kenya.

France takes on Argentina at 10:40pm followed by New Zealand play Scotland at 11:24pm.

The Fijiana, on the other hand, will play Australia at 9:12 tonight in the second women’s quarterfinal after beating South Africa 27-7 in their final pool match this morning.

They went down to series leaders New Zealand 10-12 in their second pool match last night.
