Fijiana yet to qualify for Olympic games

The Fiji Airways Fijiana may have secured their place as a core team for the next women’s world 7s series but they have yet to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Fiji will now aim for the regional qualification tournament for Oceania which will be held later this year.

The final opportunity for teams to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be in the World Rugby Olympic Repechage tournaments held next year.

Only eight women 7s teams have qualified for the Olympics which includes New Zealand, USA, Canada and Australia having all secured a top-four spot in the series standings.

The eight teams will join Japan who were guaranteed automatic qualification as host nation.


Brazil’s women have also confirmed their place at Tokyo 2020 after winning the South American regional qualifier in Lima, Peru earlier this month.
