Fijiana go down fighting against NZ in Cape Town 7s

The Fijiana put up a courageous performance against New Zealand despite going down 12-10.

Bone crunching tackles were the highlight of the first half from the Fijian which rattled the Black Ferns.

Viniana Riwai struck first in the match after being set up by Asinate Savu.

The Fijiana had the majority of the possession in the first half before New Zealand scored after Asinate Savu was shown a yellow card.

New Zealand was leading 7-5 at half time.

It was New Zealand who registered the first try of the second spell before Asinate Savu pulled one back for the Fijiana.

The national women’s 7s side was trailing 10-12 with less than two minutes to play but failed to capitalize on a few opportunities.

New Zealand tried to cross the Fijiana line in the dying stages of the match but tenacious defense from the Saiasi Fuli coached side kept them at bay.

The Fijiana will play South Africa at 3:03am tomorrow.
