The Fijiana 7s team have made a strong start to the Oceania 7s tournament after they thrashed Vanuatu 28-0 in their first match.

Despite the 10-0 lead, the team didn’t impress the crowd much in the first half.

They gained momentum in the second half where they maintained possession throughout the match.

Coach Saiasi Fuli says there are areas they need to work on today.

“The first three minutes were a bit rusty, I know the very first game the first two-three minutes are a bit rusty even though we maintained the possession and controlled the possession, it’s just that we just managed to control the possession well and be clinical and that’s what we did in the second half. Control the possession.”

Meanwhile, the Fijiana will take on the Solomon Islands at 12.50pm today.

Qualification to the Olympics is the target for Fijiana at this tournament.

They qualified for the 2016 Olympics at the Oceania 7s.
