March 30, 2019 6:48 am

The Fiji Airways men’s 7s side is in a pool of death in this year’s Hong Kong 7s tournament.

Fiji is pooled with arch-rivals New Zealand, Australia, and Kenya.

Coach Gareth Baber says they will have to work extra hard to maintain their Hong Kong 7s quarterfinal hopes alive.

Fiji has never failed to qualify for any Hong Kong 7s Cup quarter-finals in the past.

“We’re in a tough pool as everybody can see. We’ve already talked about playing three finals and you’re going to play half of the game we’ll be playing in the tournament. But if I know our players and the squads that we’ve taken to the likes of Hong Kong and Singapore previously. When you have that focus of tough opposition than the focus tends to come very earlier on in the preparation.”

Fiji meets Kenya at 11.37pm next Friday in its opening pool match, they will then play Australia at 5.13pm Saturday before taking on New Zealand at 8.55pm.

The cup quarterfinals start at 2.58pm on Sunday, cup semi-final final begins at 7.41pm and the cup final kicks off at 11pm on Sunday.
