April 3, 2019 8:25 am

The Fiji Airways 7s side may face some loopholes but they are confident of retaining the Hong Kong title this weekend.

The national side will again be without the services of its captain Kalione Nasoko, Waisea Nacuqu, and Amenoni Nasilasila.

Coach Gareth Baber says they know New Zealand and Australia have named their best team this weekend but it does not pose any threat to them.

“We beat New Zealand when we played them recently and Australia beat us recently and we know they’re not going to easy in this tournament but the massive part is the amount of preparation to make sure that we in that race to go and defend the title and I’m confident and I trusted the players and that’s exactly the intention to go out and win this tournament.”

Fiji is pooled with New Zealand, Australia, and Kenya.

They meet Kenya at 11.37pm on Friday in its opening pool match, they then face Australia at 5.13pm Saturday before taking on New Zealand at 8.55pm.

The cup quarterfinals start at 2.58pm on Sunday, cup semis at 7.41pm and the cup final kicks off at 11 pm.
