November 7, 2019 4:45 pm

It was a family affair when brothers Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Isoa and Kavekini Tabu officially played together for the first time in the national colours against Niue at the Oceania 7s earlier this afternoon.

Kavekini scored two tries on debut as he started the match with Isoa and Mocenacagi came on later.

National coach Gareth Baber spoke highly of the brothers especially their work ethics as Fiji thumped Niue 57 nil.

National under 20 halfback Simione Kuruvoli who also scored a try on debut was given a few tips by the World’s best 7s player Jerry Tuwai.

Tuwai is the team’s water boy for the tournament.

Baber says he expects more from new players like Kuruvoli, Rusiate Matai and Kavekini Tabu as the tournament progresses.

Fiji’s other tries against Niue were scored by Napolioni Ratu, Rusiate Matai, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Apenisa Cakaubalavu and Aminiasi Tuimaba.

Meanwhile, Samoa also had a tough hit-out in its first match against Papua New Guinea but managed to pull through by 33-7 but New Zealand was never really tested against New Caledonia winning by 57 nil.

The Oceania 7s at Suva’s ANZ Stadium and Fiji will end day one with their second pool match against Japan SDS at 7:26pm.
