January 31, 2019 12:19 pm

The Fiji Airways men’s 7s mentor Gareth Baber says he enjoys coaching the national team.

Baber took over the coaching job in 2017 and since then he has won eight titles with Fiji 7s side in the World Rugby series.

He says he was not aware of the skills the Fijian players have in sevens until he took the up job.

“For me as a coach coming from Wales and myself playing I did not possess that enormity skills that the Fijians have got. It feels great to coach them and the work that goes behind that is the amount of time spent in the gym and running to judge yourself in that position.”

Fiji is pooled with Samoa, England, and Japan at the Sydney 7s which will be played at the Sportless Stadium in the weekend.

The side begins its campaign against Japan at 12.34pm this Saturday, then faces England at 6.02pm and plays Samoa in its final pool match at 10.07pm.

The Cup quarter-final kicks off at 1.16pm on Sunday, semi-final at 5.16pm while the cup final is scheduled for 9.54pm.

You can watch the entire tournament live on FBC TV.
