Australia’s hope of ending their 31-year winless drought in the Hong Kong tournament was severed by Fiji and New Zealand in their pool matches yesterday.
Fiji proved too strong for the Aussie beating them 31-12 yesterday, while New Zealand gave Australia a whopping 40-19 defeat in its first pool match on Friday night.
The Australian side last won the Hong Kong title in 1988 when they defeated New Zealand 13-12.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways 7s side will take on Argentina in its Cup quarter-final match at 3.20pm today while South Africa will face USA in the first quarterfinal at 2:58 pm.
In other quarter-final matches, England will meet Samoa at 3:42 pm while NZ will play France in the last quarterfinal at 4:07 pm.
