The 2019 Oceania 7s has kicked off with the deaf tournament today at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Oceania Rugby Competitions Manager Wayne Schuster says it was a special moment watching teams from Fiji and Samoa play their first Oceania 7s matches.

Schuster adds that the deaf tournament will now be part of the Oceania 7s.

“It’s a really special moment for Oceania Rugby. First thing as well it’s so moving to see such a passionate group of young man achieve their dreams of playing international rugby for the first time for their nation so yeah it’s been amazing.”

Meanwhile, Fiji Totokia Men’s deaf side drew 5 all with Samoa in the first game while the Fiji Naiula beat Fiji Kiakaro 27-17 in the second game.

Tomorrow, Fiji Totokia will face PNG at 10am while Fiji Naiula meets Samoa at 10.22 am.

The final of the deaf competition of the Oceania 7s will be held on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team is about to play Niue in its first pool match, they will then play Japan SDS at 7:26 pm today.

The Fijiana will meet Vanuatu in their first pool match at 5:14 pm.
