Selection still open: Khan

December 12, 2015 11:02 pm

Vodafone Fiji Futsal coach, Intiaz Khan says the selection door remains open for players outside the national side, looking to represent the country at the 2016 Oceania Football Confederation Futsal Championship.

Khan and a squad of 14 players will depart for New Zealand at this hour for a six-match tour and says the boys will need to prove their worth to warrant selection for the Oceania tournament next year.

“A stern warning as well from me and our CEO; it’s not guaranteed that you’ll be in the final selection. There’s option open so you have to showcase what you have learnt.”

The national side will take on New Zealand’s Futsal Whites side in a three-match series in the Trans Pacific Cup from Tuesday as well as three friendly matches against Waikato Bay of Plenty, Auckland Futsal Federation, and FC Ferrand of New Caledonia.

The Oceania Futsal Championship will be held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva in February next year and the winner will automatically qualify for the World Futsal Championship in Colombia.
