St Joseph Secondary Schools 16 athletes to the Coca-Cola Games were paid a special visit today by their 1991 alumni members.
Apart from being given brand new gear for the two-day event, these athletes were reminded of a certain significance by those who competed in ’91.
16 athletes competed that same year but fell short of winning the girl’s division to arch rivals Adi Cakobau School by five points.
SJSS is now banking on national rep, Sisilia Seavula to bring home some gold medals in the 100m and 200m finals but she will be up against her own rival from ACS too.
“Elenoa Sailosi is my biggest threat because she is my train mate and friends and I think we know each others strengths and weaknesses but I’ve gained the confidence that I can do it.”
2012 marks the 50th year of the Fiji Secondary Schools athletics championship.
It started off from humble beginnings with 8 schools and around 700 athletes which today features over 128 schools and over 2,000 athletes.
