Schools compete in chess

The Fiji Primary and Secondary School’s Chess Championship was held in Suva today.

Students as young as nine years old and up to Form Seven got their thinking caps on at FASANOC.

An open challenge for all schools, in this case, 18 eager chess players putting their strategies to the test.

Last year’s winner, Jacqui Masi Lomani is the top favourite in the primary schools’ division.

While Fiji representative, Hilda Vukikomoala leads the secondary competitors.

Younger brother, Semisi caused a few upsets, beating older opponents to reach the final.

Two hundred dollars is on offer with the chance to expand their knowledge with chess master books.

Hilda defends her title in the girls division against fellow national rep, Amy Bale.
