The National School Swimming Championships is underway at the Aquatic Centre in Suva.

Thirty-two schools including a team from New South Wales in Australia are taking part in the competition with the standard of the competition having improved from the last year according to the organizers.

The Fiji School Swimming Association president Patrick Bower says they have received a lot of positive feedback from the schools.

“Performance of the swimmers has been excellent and the times have been better and we have had records broken. But we have yet to have them substantiated and so until they are checked we cannot make the following announcement.”

Bower adds developing water safety in schools is an important aspect to save life given that Fiji is surrounded by water.

The championship ends tomorrow.
