Ryan sticks to local players

November 3, 2015 11:17 pm

Vodafone Fiji 7’s coach, Ben Ryan will stick to only local players for the first two legs of the new World Sevens Series, which kicks-off in December.

Ryan says there are no plans as yet to rope in overseas-based reps, who are looking to contest for a spot to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

There are currently 26 players in training camp this week and Ryan this group will form the core of his final squad to Dubai and Cape Town.

“Great to have the numbers here; it adds competition and intensity and stops any staleness in the squad if I just kept rolling out the same players in training all the time. Bring in some quality in every position, let the boys know that I will continue to pick on form and that will be the case when the side gets selected for Dubai.”

Ryan will break the squad into two teams to compete in the Macuata 7’s in Labasa next weekend.

Meanwhile, the 2015/2016 World Series kicks off in Dubai on December 3rd and 4th.

You can watch the entire tournament live on FBC TV.
