“Why would I step down as the Flying Fijians coach?”
This was the reply given by John McKee to FBC Sports as the side arrived this morning following a less than desirable outing at the Rugby World Cup.
McKee who has been Fiji’s coach since 2014 stated that he wants to stay on at the helm and prepare the side for the upcoming Barbarians test match next month and beyond.
“what what I’m not sure what you are asking?
Q: It’s just that a lot of people have been asking if you will step down.
JM: but why why should I step down?! I’ve just talked about how good our performance was.
Q: So you not looking to step down?
M: Of course not I’m looking forward.”
McKee also says that if the FRU Board gives him the green light to stay he will take the opportunity.
“Now look I’m very interested in continuing with the team I think we have made a lot of progress since I’ve been here and a lot of learnings come out from these campaigns to carry forward can be beneficial but the decision will be with the board they will make their reviews and give a decision later”
Meanwhile, Fiji will face the Barbarians next month in Twickenham.
