Newtown will continue to produce giants like Jerry.

These are the sentiments of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama who spoke at the Newtown Rugby Club Awards night at Vine Yard Palace in Suva last night.

Bainimarama also gave the club a special thanks for the work that they have done throughout the years.

The legacy of your rugby club is truly impressive, both on and off the field. In all the 16 years the club has shown commitment to training and molding young people to become positive agents for change in their communities. Involvement in initiatives like Fiji’s Walk on Walk Strong, participation in clean up campaigns within the greater Nasinu area have proven that you are committed to my vision of a brighter future for Fiji and for that I thank you all.

The Prime Minister has thanked the Club for its efforts adding that in doing its work, the club has shaped the lives of many young men and women.

Looking at the award winners, Paula Nasiga was named as the Best Forward, Jesoni Nabuta received the Best Backline Award, Manasa Salababa, Vereti Tabua, Paula Bola and William Gavuki were honoured for their long service to the team, Tomasi Cava and Josua Vania were named the most disciplined and players who persevered the most, Ilaitia Bola won the Best Coach award, the leadership award was won by Voreqe Togawai while the Best Player award was handed to Apisai Lomai.
