Navuniivi villagers hold celebration for 7s captain

A huge celebration was held today in Navuniivi in Ra for the Fiji 7s captain Paula Dranisinikula.

Dranisinikula is originally from Navuniivi.

His father Paula Dranisinikula Senior says the celebration was also to thank the team for winning the Hong Kong 7s 5 years in a row during the Hong Kong 7s.

Dranisinikula says the villagers wanted to just thank the team for the performances during the series leg.

He says they are also proud of Paula for being the first from their village to don the white jersey and also be appointed as captain.

The 67 year old says that every time his son steps onto the field, it makes the family and the villagers feel proud.

Dranisinikula says that villagers from the surrounding areas also gathered today for the celebration.

Also present during the celebrations were Teri Tamani, Aminiasi Tui Mamba and Meli Derenalagi.

It was the perfect opportunity also for fans to take pictures and mingle with the players.
