Girls 7s underway in Nadi

The National Provincial Age Grade Championship Girls 7 a-side tournament kicked off at Prince Charles Park in Nadi this morning.

The Macuata girls thrashed Naitasiri 34-7 in the first round of the Under-15 grade match, while Tailevu dominated its first game beating Namosi 24-nil.

In the Under-17 division, Tailevu defeat Naitasiri 17-7 while Northland won its game by default against Namosi.

Suva thumped Macuata 25-5 and Cakaudrove defeated Namosi 10-7.

The Cakaudrove side also made a powerful start in the Under-19 category, thrashing Northland 36-5 while Suva beat Lautoka 12-nil.

In the other matches, Naitasiri beat Nadi 34-nil and Macuata defeated Tailevu 25-5.

The teams participating have been impressive with the level of competition.

Rewa rugby Under-15 coach Kitiana Kaitu says it’s a great idea to have tournament like this organized every year.

“I think the tournament is an amazing one. I believe that a lot of teams are here today and they have shown a lot of skills and a lot of talents on the ground.”

The tournament which is into its second year have 32 teams featuring in three grades, Under 15, 17 and 19.

The competition finishes later this afternoon.
