Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has revealed that furious fans personally threatened him at matches after he ruled out selecting fullback Israel Folau over his “disrespectful” anti-gay social media posts.
Cheika’s revelations about the attacks from some Wallabies fans demonstrate how divisive the Folau issue has been.
Cheika says people were saying all sorts of stuff about Folau.
He adds that threats he was getting were crazy as people approached him on the street and at games.
Cheika says that Folau spoke his mind and he is not judgmental towards his thoughts.
He adds that Rugby Australia lost one of their greatest players.
Folau is suing Rugby Australia for 10 million Australian dollars for unlawful dismissal and restraint of trade.
Meanwhile, the Wallabies will take on the Flying Fijians next Saturday at 4.45pm.
